Dear Members of the British White Cattle Association of America,
This letter is to report that we had a very successful 2016 British White Annual Meeting, Cattle Show and Sale last weekend in Purcell, Oklahoma. It was obvious that some very hard work and careful planning had been done to make everything happen so smoothly, even down to the last detail.
Friday morning started off with two interesting speakers, TCU Ranch management Director Kerry Cornelius spoke on the economics of the cow/calf business and OSU Livestock Entomologist Dr. Justin Talley spoke on external cattle parasites.
Later that morning at the Membership Meeting, John Kugler, Sherwin Moczygemba and Tommy Patterson were reelected to serve three-year terms on the Board of Directors. Officers for this next year are Jonathan Wiechmann-President, Steve Montgomery-Vice President, Kevin Reed-Secretary and John Kugler is the Treasurer.
Promotion Committee Chairman John Kugler reported that work is continuing for the formation of a British White Junior Association. A set of by-laws was presented to the Board of Directors for study and approval. Hopefully, this can be accomplished soon.
After lunch on Friday, the Board of Directors held their meeting, which was followed by Katie Anderson’s clinic on fitting and showing animals. Thanks, Katie, for all your work. It was a great presentation.
Later, the day ended with some irresistible British White burgers cooking away on the grill, good conversation, the annual Association auction and of course some great blue grass music by Steve Montgomery and Curt Boles.
Saturday was also a busy day. The cattle show started at 8:00 am, with cattle enough for over 40 entries. There were many smiling young people sporting their ribbons and buckles. Show judge,Tony Stidham said he was impressed with the cattle and was very encouraging for next year. Thanks, Tony.
The cattle sale began after lunch. This also went well, and the various lots were a good representation of the breed: animals to be proud of. About 35 head found new homes, and we thank Auctioneer, Eric Brown, for a job well done.
It was a great weekend, very enjoyable and in behalf of the Association, I heartily thank all of you who faithfully worked so hard to make it happen. Your labors are appreciated by so many.
Purcell seems to be just a very good place to hold this event. Everyone I talked to is of the opinion that we should come here again next year. The Board of Directors will be deciding this in the next few months, so any input from you is welcome.
Saturday, when we were leaving, Ericka pointed out that tall Braum’s Ice Cream cone sign on top of the hill to the south. So, anyway, after a very fun weekend, we left Purcell with a smile on our faces and a great taste in our mouths.
May the Lord bless and keep you and your families, and I hope y’all have a great winter.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Wiechmann
President BWCAA
